Just What Is a Superfood?
There is no real category of superfoods; each of them brings something different to the table. Yet, the common features of a superfood are the general effects they have on us in the areas of good heart health, a healthy immune system, cancer prevention, reducing cholesterol, and lowering inflammation.
The general components of a superfood are antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins. All superfoods contain a lot of these, but some also have good quantities of fiber, flavonoids, and good fats.
Before we delve into actual qualifying foods, a word of caution: Do not eat just superfoods. A healthy diet is varied. Superman said, âIt was Krypton that made me Superman, but itâs the Earth that makes me human.â (Avina, 2023). Superfoods give you that extra boost, but to stay healthy, you need the hoi-polloi of cuisine too.
